INVITATIONAL Qualifying SYSTEM
Over the past few years we have developed a system for how we invite athletes to compete in the Rogue Invitational. This structure guides our process of selecting the best athletes in the sport.
This qualifying system accounts for the current competition year and looks back an additional 3 years to calculate an athlete’s point total. The points earned in each preceding year are depreciated in weight. Athletes will gain points and have points fall off their total throughout the year after each of these events have been finalized: CrossFit Open, CrossFit Quarterfinals, CrossFit Games, Rogue Invitational.
Important Notes:
- The event remains an “Invitational” and we reserve the right to invite anyone we choose to compete.
- Historically, we have selected a minimum of 10 athletes using this method
- The online qualifier, “The Q”, will still qualify athletes directly into the competition, bypassing the Invitational Qualifying System.
- If an athlete retires, they are moved to the “inactive” category and filter on the leaderboard.
- See the bottom of this page for our “Contact Us” form to submit your feedback.
- Points are only assigned if athlete ranks in the top 40 for Games events and in top 20 for Rogue events. The games events are a global ranking. ex. Quarter Finals is top 40 across the globe not region
- Invites are slated to go out by EOD Friday August 23, 2024
Depreciation Points Table
- This table outlines:
- Competitions that award points
- Quantity of points awarded
- Which athlete placements receive points
- Annual depreciation factor applied to each event
- Depreciation is based on an annual rolling competition window (not calendar year).
- Points for Invitational win, Games win and Invitational participation are “flat” and do not carry an annual depreciation rate for the 5 year window.
- Note: Chart below shows points as they will be applied at the end of the 2024 competition year, after each of these events has taken place.

Exceptions Points Table
- The “Exceptions Points Table” outlines specific scenarios and how they are accounted for within our points calculations.
- This table is designed to help athletes avoid being entirely eliminated from points contention for missing competition for specific reasons. (IE Major injury)
- Depreciation is based on an annual rolling competition window (not calendar year).
- New scenarios may be added as needed.
- Example calculation: Athlete takes parental leave for 2023. Points for missed CrossFit Games is calculated as follows:
- Average of 2022 Games points (non depreciated), 2021 Games points (non depreciated), 2020 Games points (non depreciated)
- Average is then discounted using the depreciation factor tied to the missing year’s score (2023 in this example)
- This calculation is then depreciated 15%
- Flat points not included or awarded in this calculation
- This process is followed for each individual event that is missed
SCORING RULE | PREVIOUS YEAR SCORES | Additional Depreciation % applied |
---|---|---|
Parental leave | Average athlete's prior 2 years scores for the missed comp (non depreciated). Annual depreciation applied to average based on year of missing score | 15% |
