Here; the competitors had to lift Odd Haugen’s famous “Tombstone” from the ground to a stationary position on top of the shoulder for as many reps as possible (2-1/2 minute time cap). Despite not winning any of the first four events; the ever-consistent Martins Licis entered this final event in prime position to clinch his first Arnold title. He’d need 100 points to do so; but before he could celebrate; Martins got to watch Oleksii Novikov and Bobby Thompson make their own final statements in front of a raucous Columbus crowd.
