“Everything,” Lucy Underdown 🇬🇧 tells the sold-out Aberdeen crowd moments after pulling 685-lbs off the floor in Event 1. “We get to promote women’s sport and show that you can be any shape, any size, any age and compete and do something and achieve anything. It’s important for us to show that.”
What does one think about when stepping onto the platform to deadlift 685? “Nothing,” Lucy laughs. “I have a lot of internal panic.” The fans laugh with her, charmed by her sincerity, but it’s important for them to see this, too.
Most of us will never be as strong as Lucy, but this, at least, is relatable: Being afraid and doing it anyway. It’s an important life skill. And watching great people do what you love is a good way to start learning how to do it yourself.
